Communicate with Influence Workshop

Programme Information

What will I learn?

Nearly everyone these days—on a train, on a ferry, in a bus, even in a café, or on a date—sits and stares at their device. No one seems to talk; they just scroll. Are we losing our ability to converse—to make ourselves heard and understood and to listen carefully to those close to us? We are. In this course, you will go back to 1989 and learn to communicate your message clearly. We teach you to present and negotiate persuasively, lead and participate in meetings and make presentations at forums and conferences. You will learn to communicate effectively with others, practising your skills in simulated conference and meeting environments, where you present to colleagues, customers and senior management. Simulated business negotiations teach you the art of persuasion, preparation for a meeting and the skill to discern and respect the values, concerns and views of others, while keeping lines of communication open. You’ll learn to speak again— not just to talk with your thumbs on a screen.

Is this course for me?

Communication is everything, isn’t it? If we fail to communicate, we fail to relate—to persuade, to console, to manage, to lead. The good news is that communication can be learned; there are skills you can acquire (or recall). You’ll learn some useful communication theory, but you’ll also participate in learning activities: presenting to others, negotiating and managing a meeting. The course asks you to interact with people, to talk to them, and to listen to their needs. You can’t do that by sitting and watching; you must get up and participate. We don’t judge; we just teach; we draw you out into your learning self; we create an environment where it’s safe to learn, practice and grow.

What are the course objectives?

The objective of this course is to teach you about effective communication and how it affects relationships. Given a variety of aviation workplace scenarios, you are asked to demonstrate clear communication, negotiating and presenting skills, using defined strategies and techniques.
